The MDS-UPDRS (Movement Disorder Society – Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale) is another useful tool to perform a detailed symptom assessment. This scale assigns a score to each of the symptoms listed. The symptoms include both motor and non-motor signs.
Although the tool may be influenced by subjective factors (assessor-related, timing of the test in relation to on-off time, stress, etc.), it is currently considered the best tool available for this aim. Stott has highlighted some of the limitations (Stott, 2019).
Although the UPDRS is not meant to be used by PwP, it can serve as a useful reference to guide PwP in listing the symptoms to monitor.
